Objective:  Inspire Christians to pursue spiritual growth.

Being born into a Christian family is not what makes anyone a Christian.  Coming from a family or even a national heritage that follows or professes to follow God, is NOT what makes you personally a follower of God.  That’s why Jesus speaks of being “born again”, even to those who have spent their entire lives following religious tradition.  Each of us must make our own commitment to personally belong to God through Christ.  Let’s consider what is really involved in knowing you are pleasing God.

Objective:  Motivate each to repent and turn their lives over to Christ immediately.

If you knew you had only 10 minutes left before final Judgment, what would you do to get ready?  You will not get a ten minute warning.  The only warning you will get has already been issued.  The “Day of the Lord” could come at any moment.  In today’s passage, the Apostle makes it clear that our expectation of Christ’s return is motivation for us to examine ourselves right now to ensure we will be found blameless and at peace with Him.

Objective:  Remind Christians of soul saving facts they need to be continually aware of.

The Apostle Peter writes to remind Christians of some vital truths Christians must know and do already know but are prone to forget.  Let’s remind each other of these things so we can grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We can be pleasing to God.  We can acquire and partake of the divine nature.  We can escape the corruption of this generation, the corruption of this world.  We already have everything we need.  God’s power has granted everything we need to live godly lives that are entirely pleasing to Him, but we need to use and apply what God has given us as the means to life and godliness.
