Objective:  Encourage Each to pay careful attention to their Christian behavior.

We have a tendency to get involved in the day to day affairs of living; to get distracted by life and forget that we are at war.  But, the battle goes on for our souls.  When we are not “alert”, that is when we get ambushed.  The divinely inspired Apostle writes this epistle to Christians scattered throughout what we know as Turkey today, to share motivation to stay spiritually alert.

The Divinely inspired Apostle Peter is writing to Christians scattered throughout the Roman Empire.  The time is sometime in the early 60s.  Emperor Nero has begun a severe persecution of Christians in Rome which will quickly spread throughout the Roman Empire.  Christians are in for some very hard times and a lot of suffering if they are to remain faithful in their Christian walk.  Peter is writing to encourage them and to advise them on how to remain faithful throughout hard times.  We can each use his advice to prepare ourselves to remain faithful to Christ when hard times come upon us.

The Holy Apostle Peter here urges Christians to bring their love for other members of the church to a reality.  This brotherly love is to cross social classes, racial distinctions, educational divisions, tastes in music, hobbies, hurts, and anything else that might  separate people.  Demonstrate your salvation by actively and genuinely loving all the other members of Christ’s church.
