Objective:  Teach the essential nature of true Biblical teaching.

We may not all be Apostles or preachers or evangelists, but we are all teachers to some extent.  Whether it be to our children, our neighbors and friends, or even as the church sending folks abroad to other areas to teach, we carry a responsibility for right teaching.  Key to ensuring we are teaching legitimately, is to focus on teaching “faith” and “truth”.

Objective:  Direct each on how to endure in keeping the commandment of God.

What are we actually looking for as we practice our Christianity – as we pursue spiritual maturity?  How do we keep ourselves “on target” to grow and become what God wants us to be? Here, the Apostle directs one who would “keep the command”, to flee from misleading distractions and pursue the right things.  Here is how to ensure we are fighting the right fight in our religious efforts.

What is the goal of true religion?  In 1 Timothy 1:3-11,  the divinely inspired Apostle, writing to Timothy in Holy Scripture, explains that love is the overall purpose. A love that entails three essential components which define the sort of love which God expects and which we need to develop in our lives if we have any real religious intent.

In any relationship it is helpful to know what is expected of each party.  Here the Apostle lays out some vital things that are expected of a servant of the Lord.  Each of us serves in our own way, but here are some reasonable expectations that apply to each of us in our relationship to God.

Are you satisfied with comparing yourself to humans, or do you look to Christ as your role model?  What standard do you use to assess your own level of purity? Speech? Love? Trust? Conduct?  What pattern do you set for the world to see? We should imitate Christ and constantly strive to pattern higher expectations of what a Christian should be.

If we would maintain the integrity of the church, we need to maintain personal integrity first.  It starts and ends with you!  The honor, the praise-worthiness, the integrity of the Lord’s church comes down to YOU.  What does your personal  life do for the integrity of the church?  What Paul tells Timothy in this section ought to encourage and motivate each of us to set a leading example for everyone, including believers.

What is your goal in religion?  What is it we are really trying to accomplish?  This passage explains that it is a particular kind of love.  A love with three essential components which we ought to be concentrating on.  These three components define the sort of love which God expects and which we need to develop in our lives if we have any real religious intent.

I hope I never get to a place in life where beautiful sunsets come and go without notice.  Where rainbows get to be “old hat”.  Where I’m not amazed at the clouds and depth of the sky, or diamonds in the snow.   It is sad, but sometimes we get so accustomed to the most amazing things that we hardly notice them.  The Gospel itself is one of those things.  If people were appropriately impressed by the nature of what God has done on our behalf in His “godliness”, and to make us “godly”, it would to affect all of our behavior.

“Doctrine”  is really just another word for “teaching”.  The Apostle maintains that having the right “teaching is vital to soul salvation.  Let’s take a look and see why he places such an emphasis on what we teach.
