Objective:  Encourage each to patiently endure the debts of others.

Jesus tells a parable that relates God’s longsuffering and forgiving nature and teaches what nature we are to be working towards developing.  Here are some reasons this parable presents as to why it is so very vital for us to also develop forgiving spirits. Whatever the issue may be between you and another, forgive now so you will be ready for the Master’s coming.

Objective:  Encourage people to examine and ensure they are actually doing the will of the Father.

There are lots of people who say they believe in God and profess that Jesus is their “Lord”.  We would expect all these people to be going to heaven, but Jesus tells us plainly that they are not because they are not really doing what God wants.  Let’s consider how to ensure that we are really doing the will of the Heavenly Father.

Objective:  Help each feel significance of Good News.

This Good News is based on the authority that has been given to Christ by Almighty God. “All authority” means that whatever He says goes.  In everything.  For everybody.  Always. The total authority of Jesus Christ is exciting and Good News for a number of reasons …

Objective:  Move people towards godly personalities.

Jesus shared with His disciples a sampling of what qualities are admirable and desirable in people seeking to please God.  Note that each heart quality receives an appropriate and commensurate reward, a blessing. To bear the image of Christ – to be a child of God, to change whatever needs to be changed in order to be the sort of person God is looking for these are qualities we need to work on.

Like the waves of a storm at sea, life will overwhelm you eventually, if you walk it alone, but we are not intended to walk it alone.  Whatever threatens you, tempts you or brings fear and anxiety, know that Jesus has all authority and He will be with you.  You are safe and in good hands with Christ.

Scripture teaches that “…everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”, and then it also teaches that “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven”  This is not a contradiction.  It simply means we need to understand what it means to call on the name of the Lord.

Did you ever have someone ask you what you were singing or whistling, and not even realize you were singing? We are sometimes like that in our devotion to God;  We go through motions, say prayers without thinking about the words or meanings, sing songs  because we are supposed to, forgetting that we are praising God, and even doing “church” or other “good” activities because we always have. We need to think about our devotions and make them real efforts to praise and honor and glorify God.

Christians are the light of the world.  We are the body of Christ.  We have been given the Word of God and His Spirit with which to lead people and help people.  These things all require that we make good decisions, choices, and proper judgments.  We need to make judgments carefully, charitably  with truth, justice and love in our hearts.
