A big part of Moses’ job in Deuteronomy, was to teach the people the commandments and instructions of God so that they might all have a healthy respect or “fear” of God. This is not a run away and hide, terror sort of fear, it is a stand in awe of Who He is and reverence and honor Him appropriately fear. A healthy “fear” of God is an important and a good thing. It brings blessings and life.

The experience and example of Daniel illustrates how important it is to make a clear and firm resolve before the testing comes.
